Statement on #blacklivesmatter

posted in: Indigenous Health | 0

We at WILDFIRE have been deeply saddened by the death of George Floyd and the subsequent events that have transpired over the past few weeks. These events have encouraged us to reflect on Indigenous health within Australia and analyse how we at WILDFIRE can better educate our community and work to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander well-being.

At its core, WILDFIRE is a university health club focused on promoting rural and Indigenous health. We recognise that Indigenous health cannot be improved without first addressing the systemic racism that allows these health inequalities to occur. Over the coming weeks to months we hope to provide educational material that you can use to stay informed on important issues affecting Indigenous Australians, as well as ways you can act to improve these issues.

We hope to encourage our community to remain educated and vocal about Indigenous health not only now, but into the future.
